From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Initial investigation reveals that, after takeoff and during level flight at a point approximatly 6 NM wnw of Russian Mission, Alaska, subject Cessna 208 caravan collided nearly head on with a Piper PA-18 at about 1000 feet AGL. Both aircraft were destroyed on impact with the ground. FAA investigation was limited to observing and photographing the crash site from a hovering helicopter due to vegetation and terrain which precluded landing. There were no witnesses or survivors. Wreckage is being relocated to wasilla, Alaska for further examination and investigation. See also FAA investigation AAL-09-16-018 concerning the Piper PA-18.
