From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Pilot was interviewed. He stated that he had flown from griffith (05C) to dekalb, IN (gwb). He departed about 1030 and landed at gwb at about 1150. He immediately departed gwb to return to the griffith area. Instead of landing at griffith, he proceeded to the practice area to practice some steep turns. He performed this practice at 3,500'. In preparation to perform the turns, he stated that he switched from the left tank which was about half full to the right tank which was full of fuel. He stated that after 10 minutes, he noticed that the RPM was decreasing and the engine had apparently quit. He performed his restart checklist and was unable to restart the engine. He called the flight school on the radio and let them know that he would be making an off-field landing. He landed to the north in a bean field.
