From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On October 1, 2016, the pilot departed pib in route to lul. Pilot flew over the field at lul setting up to land. Pilot checked mixture, turned on electric fuel pump, and applied carb heat. As the pilot entered the landing pattern, throttle back and applied flaps. Pilot applied another notch of flaps, because his approach was to steep. Pilot decide to go-around and attempt another approach. Pilot throttle engine RPM increase, pulled flaps up, turned carb heat off. Engine started to run rough. Pilot re-applied carb heat, electric fuel pump was still on. Switch fuel tanks, but started to losing altitude and landed airplane in a field at the end of runway. As airplane rolled out the left main landing gear hit a hole and the left landing gear broke off.
