From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On Wednesday, October 12, 2016, at approximately 2034 central daylight time (0134 universal coordinated time), the airman, holder of an airline transport pilot certificate, and pilot in command of N279PM, a Cessna/textron aviation CE-208 caravan, was involved in an aircraft incident while taxiing into the non-movement/ramp area at the Wichita dwight d. eisenhower national airport (kict), Wichita, Kansas. The CE-208 caravan is owned and operated by an air cargo operator conducting flights pursuant to the provisions of title 14 code of federal regulations (CFR) part 135. Pursuant to the airman?s verbal and written statements, the aircraft entered the non-movement/ramp area via taxiway A4 and proceeded westbound towards the anticipated parking area; a marshaller was positioned at the airman?s 11 o?clock position identifying the specific parking location. Surveillance video footage from the fixed base operation, combined with the airman?s verbal and written statements, confirmed that as the aircraft was entering the ramp area, the airman elected to turn the taxi light off to minimize visual impairment for the marshaller; the aircraft would eventually need to make a 90 degree left turn to align itself with the intended parking area. At the time of the event, the ramp area, specifically in the area where the aircraft was entering the non-movement area from taxiway A4, was dark; minimal illumination was present near the fixed base operator?s building. As the aircraft taxied westbound on the ramp area and prior to initiating its 90 degree left turn to the designated parking area, there was a Cessna CE-421 series aircraft parked facing northbound and just slightly to the right of the caravan?s direction of taxi. The airman stated that as the aircraft approached making the left turn to align with the marshaller, the aircraft felt as though it came in contact with a wheel chock. In belief that it was just a wheel chock, the airman attempted to continue the aircraft?s left turn, only to discover that the aircraft?s right wing had impacted the vertical stabilizer of the parked CE-421. The airman continued to the designated parking area; the caravan sustained minor damage to its right wing leading edge.

As the FAA filed it
