From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Aircraft had a loss of power and the engine stopped running while flying over the Great Salt Lake. Pilot glided and ditched the aircraft in the Great Salt Lake.

Pilot stated, "at what appeared to be half way across the lake the engine quit. I had been flying for approximately 30 minuets. The aircraft was not equipped with a starter therefore no restart was attempted. A turn back to the island was not an option so I continued ahead and pulled the nose up to what I considered the best glide speed biased upon power off practice in the traffic pattern."
