From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Applicant demonstrating shortfield approach and landing to runway 17 during practical test. The aircraft was low on short final and the right main gear struck an object along the extended runway centerline approximately 130 feet north of the threshold in the approach area. The object was a camera unit that is approximately 12 inches high and is painted in bright orange placed there by the airport operator, Pierce county. The force of striking the object caused the right main gear to exceed its design limits which will require major repair and is categorized as substantial damage.
