From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Pilot and commercial student departed runway 22 for pattern work and touch and goes, turned left base, spotted birds and attempted to descend below birds, bird descended with the aircraft and struck right wing.

Pilot was forced to go around due to traffic on runway but landed uneventfully and taxied to ramp.

Inspection revealed damage to fiberglass wing tip cap and closeout rib on end of wing. Leading edge is crushed approximately six inches in length and one inch in depth.

Damage is considered minor due to accessability of repair area.
