The student pilot stated, "on December 2, 2016 at approximately 10:00 am I departed the spanish fork airport on a southbound departure for st. george. I contacted my flight instructor asking him how the weather was further south and he told me that it was just getting worse. We decided that it would be better for me to do a touch and go in cedar city and turn around to head back to spanish fork. I remember him asking me how much fuel that I had on board which was ¾ of a tank. As I approached the nephi airport I noticed that I had just under a quarter of a tank of fuel and believed that I had plenty of fuel to complete the flight. Somewhere between 10 and 15 NM out from the spanish fork airport the plane ran out of fuel."
