From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Description: on Friday dec 2, 2016, about 4:30PM landing on runway 33 at W66. Commercial pilot/cfii privacy data omitted flying as student and CFII privacy data omitted acting as instructor performing annual insurance review in N4149R. Instructor requested short field landing. Instructions given were to be 50 feet over numbers at 75 KIAS, then go to flight idle, push down for the runway, and land short. Power was reduced to flight idle, the airplane dropped rapidly and hit hard on the right main gear and then transferred the load to the rest of the gear. Damage to the prop, all the gear. Fuselage was wrinkled to the point that a designated engineer conducted an engineering evaluation. This document required the addition of doublers on the inside of the right cabin. All three gear struts were also damaged and required replacement.

Causal and/or contributing factors:

Pilot failed to maintain a stabilized approach
