What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
While flying above airport N72, cfi's lesson plan with student pilot included a simulated emergency landing, which the student pilot was performing at the direction of the CFI. Shortly after touchdown of simulated landing, both pilots heard an impact and saw a very brief pause of the propeller, which then started turning again. Being aware they hit something, they taxied off the runway, parked the aircraft, and inspected the aircraft. Impact damage was shown between the bottom of the nose cowling and the nose wheel. The exhaust pipe was partially flattenned and the lower left side of the nose cowling was dented inwards. A considerable amount of blood was in the area of the dent. The pilots proceeded to the runway to determine the cause of the impact. At that time they realized it was a deer they hit. The deer was dragged clear of the runway. Pictures were taken of aircraft and deer. The airport manager was notified and the aircraft was secured. Due to being after business hours, teb FSDO was informed the following day. Upon a more detailed inspection of aircraft by the airworthiness inspector. Damage reported by the pilot was verified. Also the airworthiness inspector determined the fork area of the nose gear is bent and the aircraft fire wall indicates damage.
