From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 1/25/2017 at approximately 1615 hours C-172 N9162H piloted by student pilot took off from kvcb (Nut Tree Airport) to conduct an authorized solo training flight in the airport traffic pattern. After approximately 30 minutes of flight weather conditions began to deterirorate in the form of high winds and local rain showers. Pilot elected to terminate training. While attempting to land the aircraft pilot touched down on runway 20. Pilot stated that the aircraft bounced and ballooned upon initial touchdown and became airborne. The pilot then attempted to again land the aircraft after it bounced and touched down off center causing the aircraft to depart the runway surface onto the sod adjacent to runway 20. The aircraft traveled approximately 250 feet into the sod and sunk into the mud causing the propeller to strike the surface. Pilot performed shutdown procedures and exited the aircraft.
