From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The pilot stated he had just purchased the aircraft, N8676H, a North American Navion and was flying it to California. He picked it up from the previous owner in italy, Texas. He said he felt very ill from food poisoning and landed on a ranch North of Andrews, Texas, at about 1800 hours on Friday, January 27, 2017. After landing, the right wing struck a mesquite tree causing damage to the leading edge. The pilot said the leading edge was dented, but not torn or cracked.

The pilot did not initially report the incident. The land owner contacted the sheriff?s office and a deputy reported it to FAA because the pilot wanted to fly the aircraft out of the field on Saturday morning.

The pilot told the deputy sheriff, the aircraft engine was running rough and that is why he landed. He later told the FAA, he landed because he was feeling ill.

Monday morning (January 30, 2017),the pilot stated that he had hired a truck and crew, they disassembled the aircraft on Sunday and the aircraft was enroute to san antonio, Texas on a truck.
