From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On January 31, 2017 at approximately 1215 MST (1915Z), N338MF, an Aero sp AT-4 light sport aircraft sustained nose wheel and propeller damage when the aircraft departed the right side of runway 17R at Centennial Airport (apa).

The 1853Z weather reported winds as 310 at 9 knots resulting in a right quartering tailwind. Excessive application of right rudder during the takeoff roll resulted in the aircraft turning right of centerline. Corrective application of left rudder caused the aircraft to swerve to the left. Over application of right rudder resulted in loss of control and the aircraft departed the runway to the right. Once off hard pavement, the nose wheel dug into the dirt and collapsed. The propeller was subsequently destroyed. There was no airframe or firewall damage.

The pilot was given FAA oral counseling. The chief flight instructor was instructed and will administer additional training to the pilot before further solo flight.

As the FAA filed it
