From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On Sunday February 12, 2017, at APPROXIMATELY1900UTC, N921MA departed runway 23 at Craig Municipal Airport (kcrg). Just after lift off, the pilot aborted the takeoff and landed in the grass off the departure end on runway 23. The pilot indicated that there he experienced an engine failure. There was no injury to the pilot, or damage to the aircraft.

Once the aircraft was towed back to the hanger, the engine was ran to try and duplicate the problem. The mechanics found that the engine would run at idle; however, as power was applied, the engine began to run rough and rpm's would not advance. The engine was thoroughly checked along with the gaskelator with no debris found. The carburetor was removed and disassembled and it was discovered that there was a build up of a corrosive gunk textured substance in the bottom of the fuel bowl of the carburetor.

The pilot's logbook endorsements and the aircraft maintenance records were found to be in regulatory compliance.

This incident will be closed with a service difficulty report on the carburetor. The completed unique control # for the SDR is XYZA20170228001.
