From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 02/26/2017 aircraft N4529K a Ryan navion model NA-145F aircraft was practicing touch and go landings on runway 33 at fok (Gabreski airport). Wind at this time was reported from 310 degrees at 21 knots gusting to 28 knots.

Air traffic controllers who witnessed the accident stated that the aircraft touched down, then on take off veered to the right. The right wing dropped sharply. The aircraft appeared to recover momentarily before the right wing dropped again sharply and the aircraft descended into wooded area to the right of the runway. One person sustained serious injuries and two were confirmed dead at the scene (one of the deceased was a passenger in the back seat).

The pilotprivacy data omitted was not current to fly his aircraft and was receiving a flight review to re-gain his currency. He was sitting in the left seat. The certified flight instructor (CFI) was sitting in the right seat and acting as pilot in command (PIC). According to the pilot receiving the flight review, approximately 100 ft. prior to touching down, the CFI said "my aircraft" and took control of the aircraft. He stated that the CFI pulled back on the yoke. The aircraft hit the ground hard and bounced into the air andthe CFI continued pulling back on the yoke. The pilot getting the flight review stated that he immediately added power, and may have raised flaps and pushed forward on the yoke to avoid a stall. He reported that the CFI told him to "get off the yoke" so he relinquised control again, and the CFI pulled back on the yoke again. According to the pilot receiving the flight review, the aircraft stalled and he believes entered a spin, at which time the aircraft impacted the ground.

After a review of aircraft, engine, and propeller maintenance records, and inspection of the aircraft and engine on site, there appears to be no issues related to this accident regarding maintenance.

As the FAA filed it

THE PILOT^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS NOT CURRENT TO FLY HIS AIRCRAFT AND WAS RECEIVING A FLIGHT REVIEW TO RE-GAIN HIS CURRENCY.
