From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

PIC was practicing touch and go landings on runway 27L. On downwind the PIC remembers the tower reporting the wind at 220. PIC landed, retracted the flaps but failed to respond quickly enough to a wind gust causing the aircraft to weathervane and depart the runway just before the bravo exit. PIC regained control of the aircraft and taxied onto taxiway bravo. PIC returned to parking and spoke with his instructor later regarding the event. There was no damage to the aircraft or to the airport property. The inspector counseled the PIC on the incident as well as the risks involved with touch and go landings in a tailwheel aircraft. PIC agreed that full stop landings will be safer.

Conclusion: the pilot demonstrated a compliant attitude and is aware of the mistake and will take measures to prevent future occurrence.

Recommendation: pilot counseling in accordance with the compliance philosophy 8900.1 vol. 14, chap. 1, sect. 1.

No further action required.
