From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 04/20/2017 privacy data omitted took a friend for a flight in his Mooney M20. The first flight was from Gnoss Field (dvo) to petaluma municipal airport (O69). Once at petaluma they ate lunch and fueled the aircraft. They left petaluma and flew directly back to Gnoss Field. At approximately 2:00PM that day, privacy data omitted attempted to land on runway 31 but touched down about ten feet short of the runway. The aircraft landed on dirt but then struck the lip of the runway pavement. This caused the two main landing gear to fail and retract. The aircraft continued to skid on its belly until it came to rest approximately 75 yards down the runway just off the pavement to the right side. Damage was limited to the propeller blades, engine cowling, the aircraft belly and landing gear system. No damage to airport property. No injuries were reported.
