From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On may 9th, 2017, aircraft N714DW had an in -flight emergency, and a forced landing into an open field and was involved in an accident after departing lake city FL (klcq). The aircraft sustained substantial damage, but, the pilot was not injured.

According the pilot?s written statement, about 45 minutes after he had departed klcq he heard the engine make an unusual sound, noticed a drop in RPM and subsequent smoke coming from the engine area and into the cockpit. After doing some troubleshooting, he determined that he could not fix or remedy the situation and could not make it to the nearest airport to land. He communicated his emergency situation with jax center, set the aircraft up for best glide speed, selected an open field to land in, and upon landing in a rough field, the nose gear hit a rut in the soil and flipped the aircraft over on its back where it came to rest.
