From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

West jet airlines (WJ0F) flight 1200, a B-737-7CT, registration number c-gwcm, operating a revenue flight from toronto airport, toronto, Canada (yyz) to laguardia airport, queens, new york (lga) made contact with republic airlines (R61A) flight 5899, an ERJ-170-100SU, registration number N867RW, operating a revenue flight from louisville, Kentucky (sdf) to lga.

According to airport agency reports, police reports, air carrier reports and aircraft maintenance records the R61A aircraft was eastbound on taxiway bravo partially in the intersection of taxiway mike and stopped because a passenger stood up. The WJ0F aircraft was taxiing eastbound on taxiway bravo behind the R61A aircraft. At the intersection of taxiway mike the WJ0F aircraft made a right turn behind the R61A aircraft. While making the right hand turn the WJ0F left winglet struck the right horizontal stabilizer/elevator wingtip of the R61A aircraft. The lga port authority operations was notified of the contact between the two aircraft by R61A. The WJ0F aircraft sustained damage to the left hand winglet. The R61A aircraft sustained damage to the right hand horizontal stabilizer/elevator wingtip. Afterwards both aircraft taxied to the gate at terminal delta. The WJ0F aircraft parked at gate D7 and the R61A aircraft parked at gate D9. The passengers from both aircraft were safely deplaned at the gate. There were no reported injuries to passengers or crew members on either aircraft and no further reported damage to any other property. There was minimal impact to airport operations.

The WJ0F aircraft was repaired in lga and returned to service. The R61A aircraft had repairs accomplished in lga so it could by maintenance ferried to columbus international airport, columbus, Ohio (cmh), for completion of repairs.

This event was submitted to the canadian non-punitive event program (canadian version of the us FAA asap) event review committee (erc) for inclusion in the non-punitive event program by the flight crew of the WJ0F air carrier.
