From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Accident pilot departed carlsbad, CA (kcrq) for Van Nuys, CA (kvny). Accident pilot made first attempt at landing, went around, and event occurred during second attempt at landing aircraft.

Pilot made a three-point landing on kvny runway 16R, during calm winds. Upon rollout, aircraft veered right. Pilot added left rudder to correct. Aircraft pulled left with the left wing rising upward at approximately 35 KTS. Pilot tried correcting with rudder and control input. The aircraft tailwheel lifted off of runway surface, aircraft made a 200 degree turn. Pilot stated one wingtip contacted the runway surface, and the aircraft engine stalled.

Subsequent inspection of the aircraft revealed that both left and right wing tips were damaged due to impact with the runway surface, and the right wing strut sustained damage.
