From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Description:

N930TG a de havilland DHC-2 beaver floatplane, owned and operated by rdm pilot/ guide ltd (Y3RA) a part 135 air carrier based in Ketchikan, AK, crashed on departure from big goat lake, located in the misty fjords national monument, subsequently sinking to the bottom of the lake. Six passengers and one crew member were on board. All were able to get to the shore with only minor injuries.

The pilot began his takeoff run from the FAR east end of the lake towards the west with a light tail wind. After getting on the step, the pilot felt the aircraft would not be able to fly going this direction with the current conditions. Approximately half way down the lake, the pilot executed a 180 degree step turn to depart towards the east. After completion of the step turn the pilot managed to get the aircraft in the air. Once in the air, he reduced the power to climb power, and brought the flaps up to the climb setting. After doing so, the pilot realized he wouldn?t be able to clear the trees on the east end of the lake. The pilot then elected to make a 180 degree turn to the left. At approximately the 130 degree point of the turn, the left wing impacted the water.

The aircraft separated from the floats and sank. All persons on board swam to shore.
