From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On approach to runway 12 at Elizabeth Field Fishers Island, NY 0B8 the PIC explained that he had a right crosswind and flew the approach at 90-95 knots with 15 degrees of flaps out of 50 available. He aimed for the runway numbers and touched down just after the numbers in a normal fashion. He attempted to slow the aircraft down by applying brake pressure but the aircraft did not slow down as quickly as needed so he applied more brake pressure. Eventually he realized he could not execute a go around and did not have enough runway left to come to a complete stop. He intentionally veered the aircraft to the left onto the grass abutting the runway safety area at the end of runway 12. He explained he moved the mixture controls to idle cutoff just prior to leaving the paved surface and the aircraft sustained minor damage to the nosewheel, bent left propeller, and imperfections to the right propeller. The aircraft is currently still located at Fishers Island airport with no immediate plan to repair and move the aircraft. The PIC is being given a reexamination 44709 checkride for normal, short field, crosswind landings, and aeronautical decision making.

As the FAA filed it
