From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On July 18, 2017 at approximately 18:20 eastern daylight time, a Piper PA-22-160 aircraft, N9807D, registered to and operated by a commercial pilot, received substantial damage when it overturned during landing on the westbound runway of a private grass airport in Breckenridge, Michigan.

The personal flight was being conducted under the provisions of title 14 code of federal regulations (CFR) part 91 without a flight plan. The pilot received minor injuries. The flight originated from the pilot?s private grass airport at his home privacy data omitted.

According to the pilot, he was practicing a short field landing when he inadvertently descended too low. The main landing gear struck corn planted across a dirt road bordering the runway. The aircraft then touched down on the road surface and impacted a culvert at the runway threshold. The resultant forces lead the right main landing gear to collapse upon final touch down on the runway surface. As the aircraft dug into the sod, it overturned and came to rest.

Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time of the accident. The weather report at kamn airport at 1811Z was: wind 200 degrees at 08 gusting to 17 knots, visibility 10 statute miles, clear, temp 28, dew point 15, and altimeter 3007.

As the FAA filed it

THE FLIGHT ORIGINATED FROM THE PILOT?S PRIVATE GRASS AIRPORT AT HIS HOME ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.
