From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 23 July 2017, at approximately 1330, a Phoenix Air Sro (motor glider) attempted to takeoff from Leesburg airport (jyo) VA. Prior to liftoff speed, the aircraft veered to the left of the runway and entered the grass. Full right rudder input by the pilot did not correct the aircraft direction. The pilot shut off power and applied the brakes. The main landing gear collapsed and the aircraft came to a full stop about 180 degress out from takeoff direction. The pilot shut off the fuel and electrical system and exited the aircraft. The damage to the aircraft was limited to the main landing gear, propeller, and engine cowling. The pilot sustained no injuries. No passengers were on board the aircraft. At that time the Virginia state police and FAA were notified.
