From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On August 1, 2017 the instructor and student on board the aircraft were practicing hover auto rotations at kmtn, on airport property. After stabilizing the aircraft in an approximately 2 foot hover, the student lowered the collective to initiate the auto rotation, but did not apply the correct inputs. The instructor attempted to correct the inputs by applying opposite tail rotor pedal and raising the collective, but was unable to fully correct before the aircraft impacted the ground harder than normal for the maneuver. No problem was identified at that point and they continued with the lesson. After a short amount of flight time a slight vibration was felt and they returned to the ramp to park. After inspection of the aircraft, it was noted that the rear cross tube was bent, and the engine mount had been slighty bent as well.

As the FAA filed it
