From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

From phone conversation with pilot:

Prior to flight, pilot and father-in-law arrived Friday for eclipse viewing. Plan was to depart right after around 11:40-noon but everyone was departing so they elected to grab lunch then fly. Arrived 2PM to the airport. Fuel was topped of 53 gallons (FBO copter doctor) and pilot completed w&b utilizing foreflight. Checked performance charts (runway required). Pilot claims they were under max around 70-80#. Received AWOS at rxe, completed run-up, make call to depart 17. Rolled onto runway and utilized short takeoff procedure checklist. Airspeed took a while to get to rotate at 65KIAS, aircraft climbed to 10? And pilot realized he may not clear trees and buildings at end of runway. Attempted to land on runway, bounced, re-landed and immediately retarded throttle fully and applied brakes. Plane skidded, drifted left into grass, hit fence prior to golf course. Pilot immediately cut fuel and followed shut-down procedures. Batteries, alt, mags, electronics. Pilot had passenger evacuate and once confirmed then evacuated himself. Police arrived within 5 minutes.
