What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
On October 7, 2017 a midair collision occurred between Long-Ez N966EZ and cherokee N15664.
A cherokee N664 was told to report a left base for 6L. N966EZ called in over wasson peak and tower told him to report on a 2-mile 45 for 6L. At the same time aircraft N664 called in, and Cessna N11518 also called, stepping on him. The tower asked N11518 if that was him on a left base at 3100 feet about 5 miles nw. N11518 replied he was at 3200 on the 45. Tower then told him to report downwind. The cherokee N664 called in again about 8 miles nw and was instructed to report a 2-mile left base for 6L.
A few minutes later, tower asked N11518 to ident. Tower then told N11518 he was on a left base from that position and to turn southbound now! Tower told N966EZ to make a left 360 (for spacing for N11518). Tower then told N11518 he was #1 for 6L. N11518 asked for the option. Tower replied he was unable for the option. He could make a full-stop, touch and go, low pass but not a stop and go. N11518 then replied he?d be a full-stop taxi back. Tower instructed the cherokee N664 to keep his base out wide and change to 6R. Tower then told N966EZ the traffic he was following was a Cessna N11518 on left base and he was #2 for 6L.
N966EZ pilot made several calls that were hard to distinguish. He explained he was trying to confirm if he was following the traffic on 6R. Both pilots said it was hard to understand what was being said, and who was saying it. Tower then said, ?I?ve got Cessna N11518 on short final for 6L and Long-Ez N966EZ on the right runway (when he was actually on the left) and the cherokee N664 rolling out on a one-mile final for the right runway. The pilot of N966EZ said he had the wrong traffic in sight. Tower again told N966EZ he was following the traffic over the runway on 6L. The next call was from cherokee N664 declaring an emergency because he?d had a midair. Aircraft N664 and N6EZ were both told by the tower to land any runway after both declared an emergency. Both aircraft landed safely and taxied to their hanger without any problems.
As the FAA filed it
ON OCTOBER 7, 2017 A MIDAIR COLLISION OCCURRED BETWEEN LONG-EZ N966EZ AND CHEROKEE N15664.
