From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 10/27/2016 at 0805 MST N364JS, Lancair 320, serial number 001J, attempted to land at Falcon field (ffz) on rwy 4L when the nose landing gear collapsed, causing the aircraft to slide on the nose across the runway in which the prop blades struck the pavement multiple time breaking off the blades. A hole in the lower engine cowling just in front of the nose landing gear bay was worn through due to the sliding effect across the ground. No structural damage was observed to the nose landing gear wheel bay or the rest of the aircraft. After speaking with the pilot he stated he experienced a landing gear issue and could not get a down a locked indication and the pilot deployed the emergency extension bottle and proceeded to line up to land on rwy 4. Upon touch down the nose gear collapsed. This aircraft is certificated as experimental amateur built. Last condition inspection was completed in March of 2017.
