From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Weather - clear / dry conditions

Airman was conducting takeoff and landing currency in the subject aircraft. Video suggests winds were calm to light. Aircraft touched down at the FAR side of the runway approach numbers. There was a squealing sound shortly after touchdown which was followed by a clockwise yawing motion. This continued with the right main gear leaving the pavement as the aircraft rolled left and contacted the pavement with the left wingtip. During the yawing event the left main gear remained in contact with the runway surface and created a skidmark that was uninterrupted (and parallel to the wingtip witness marks) until departing the runway to the right and continuing downhill.

The airman stated that he applied full power at some point during the event, although it is difficult to identify when by the video. The aircraft presumably corrected to the left during the slide downhill to where the terrain began an abrupt climb up towards another hilltop. At this point the right main gear collapsed and separated from the fuselage, and the right horizontal stabilizer contacted the rising terrain causing a shearing moment to the empennage just forward of the vertical stabilizer.

There were no injuries reported, and no post impact fire.

As the FAA filed it
