From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Instructor pilot (CFI) was demonstrating crosswind landings to a pre solo student pilot on runway 17L at kapa when the tower was reporting winds at 250/23 + 29 on final. Tower offered runway 28, however, the instructor again requested 17L for a crosswind landing. On touchdown the aircraft veered off to the right departing the runway and subsequently coming back onto the runway and departing the runway to the left finally coming to a stop on the ramp narrowly missing two parked airplanes. The instructor had initiated and attemped a go around but subsequently elected to abort and remain on the ground. During the rollout the airplane struck and damaged a runway edge light and the aircraft sustained minor damage to the tail section and left main gear. No fire or injuries sustained, however, the CFR was dispatched to the scene by the tower.
