From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Aircraft departed Santa Paula Airport (szp), Santa Paula, CA, at 1030 PST. Pilot was on a personal flight, with one passenger on board. Pilot reported that while landing, she became distracted by another airplane in the pattern, and veered to the right. Pilot attempted a go around, and continued going right. The right wing of the accident aircraft clipped the vertical stabilizer of another aircraft, a Robinson R-22, aircraft registration number N341SL. The aircraft came to rest upside down in the riverbed 100 ft south of the airport runway. No injuries reported.

*Note - although two aircraft were involved, the NTSB does not consider the second aircraft, N341SL, an accident, and did not issue a suffix of 'a' and 'b' for each aircraft. Therefore, only one FAA form 8020-23 will be completed.
