From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

02/21/2018 Aircraft departed kase for kfrg at 0952 MST / 1652Z. Two hours into the flight the flight crew detected a heavy odor in the cabin resembling an electrical fire. After inspection of the cabin by the SIC there was no smoke or fire noted, however passengers did also confirm the smell of electrical burning smell.

The flight crew diverted to nearest suitable airport (kcle) due to increasing level of odor

Flight crew did inform ATC they were declaring an emergency, crew briefed the 3 passengers (1 adult 2 children) of their intention to divert. Flight crew did execute a landing at kcle runway 6L. Upon successful landing and clearing the runway airport ARFF met the aircraft on the taxiway. Flight crew executed an emergency evacuation of all passengers using the main cabin door on the taxiway and powered the aircraft down. There were no injuries.

02/28/2018 After maintenance investigation the final cause of the electrical odor was found to be chaffed / shorted wires in electrical bundle under floor at the main cabin door. Door hinge found to be chaffing wire bundle under the floor causing door motor to run which in turn caused the electrical odor. Wire harness has been repaired, main cabin door motor has been replaced as a precautionary measure. Aircraft was returned to service without further occurrence of the electrical odor.

As the FAA filed it
