From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 3/1/18 at approximately 1108 local time, N121PZ departed Oakland County International Airport (kptk). On the climbout pilots noted both heading indicators slowly rotating during a straight out departure. This was followed by a "heading mis-compare" warning followed by "attitude fail" on both primary flight displays (pfds) and standby indicator. The pilot stated that altitude and airspeed indications seemed to be operational. An emergency was declared by detroit (dtw) air traffic control. The aircraft was initially vectored to fnt. Based on weather conditions, the pilot changed the emergency destination to muskegon airport (mkg) which was under visual meteorological conditions. The aircraft landed without incident. The pilot, who is also the designated aircraft mechanic, shut down the aircraft and performed a complete ahrs shutdown and re-initialization. After reinitialization, the aircraft was taxied to verify attitude /heading indications working correctly. After successful verification of operational systems, the aircraft departed mkg and flew to denver international airport (kden) without incdient. Several subsequent flights have been completed in this aircraft since the incident, without incident.
