What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
N35VM, single engine, conventional gear, Stinson 108, lost control on landing and groundlooped, departing the landing runway 04R. The pilot stated he was returning from a part 91 flight in an aircraft make/model that was purchased recently, 10 hours total in make/model. The pilot stated the loss of control was due to inexperience with performance characteristics of tundra tires landing on pavement. On touchdown and rollout, the power was idle, a yaw to the left occurred when the right tire touched first with unequal contact. The left wheel raised and the aircraft started to ground loop to the left side of the touchdown runway. The right wheel dug into the grass, the right wing contacted the ground, and a prop strike occurred at low power. Weather and winds reported at the time of the accident was calm winds, clear sky greater than 10 sm. Operations personell previously inspected the maintenance logbooks due to the recent sale of the aircraft. No discrepancies noted. The airman has a detailed history of obtaining conventional aircraft experience and industry education since obtaining his private pilot certificate. Airman counseling was performed. The airman is placing smaller tires on the aircraft and stated the use of tundra tires will not be utilized on the aircraft until additional industry education is received. Additional education and experience will be specifically related to performance characteristics of tundra tires on pavement.
