From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On may 24, 2018, N77922 was destroyed on the ramp at Clermont County Airport (I69) after engine start. The pilot chalked the left main wheel then attempted to hand prop the aircraft. Nobody was at the controls of the aircraft and the parking brake was not set. After two unsuccessful attempts to start the aircraft, the pilot reached into the cockpit and pumped the throttle two times. The pilot inadvertently advanced the throttle about half an inch. The engine started on the third attempt and the aircraft jumped over the chalks and started taxing in a circle. The pilot reached for the open cockpit door but was unable to crawl inside, losing the end of his middle finger on his left hand. The aircraft continued to taxi in a tight circle on the ramp. The pilot tried to grab the tail of the aircraft but was knocked down. The aircraft continued to taxi in a circle until the airport owner used his truck to strike the tail of the aircraft while it was taxiing. This caused the nose and propeller to strike the ground, stopping the engine and bringing the aircraft to rest on the ramp.

As the FAA filed it
