From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Based on radar tracking and witnesses? Statements a Cessna 150 was flying low (less than approximately 150?) Over the waters of puget sound Washington. It was flying north from vashon island Washington towards Bainbridge island Washington. The passenger observed the pilot navigating using ?foreflight? On his tablet, which was resting on his lap. Just before the aircraft impacted the water the passenger observed that the pilot looked down at his tablet and the aircraft unintentionally and quickly descended. The aircraft impacted the water just north east of wing point, Bainbridge island Washington, flipped over and quickly sank. There were two people on board, the pilot did not exit the aircraft and was fatally injured. Upon impact the passenger was initially knocked unconscious; she regained consciousness and was able to exit the aircraft, was rescued and transported to a hospital; she sustained serious injuries. Based on witnesses? And passenger?s statements it appears that there were no mechanical issues with the aircraft.

As the FAA filed it
