From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 6/1/18 at approximately 1430 local time, privacy data omitted was the pilot in command of N1777 (Fairchild M-62A) while conducting practice takeoff and landings at the Sussex, NJ airport (kfwn) on runway 21.

privacy data omitted Had been conudcting numerous takeoff and landings with a passenger (also a pilot, however not acting as pilot in command of the aircraft). On the last practice landing, privacy data omitted had completed a wheel landing and once the tailwheel contacted the ground, the aircraft veered to the right and exited the runway onto the grass. As a result, both main gear had sheered off the aircarft and the propeller had struck the ground.

Weather at the time was obserevd (by two witnesses) to be VFR with light winds. Runway 21 was the active runway at the time.

No injuries reported. Aircraft sustained damage to the main gear, propeller and left wing. Aircraft damage was assessed by the allentown flight standards district office (FSDO) and determined not to meet the threshold for substantial damages per the definitions in 49 CFR 830.2.

Engine and flight control continuity, including tail wheel steering was assessed and no pre-incident abnormalities were noted.
