From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

privacy data omitted Flew his Maule M-4 with his wife out to a gravel bar along beaver creek which is 25 miles east of Livengood Alaska. Prior to taking off privacy data omitted walked the gravel bar looking for any problems durng his takeoff roll. He was also paying attention to the wind. He noted calm winds on the ground but knew there may be winds above the ground due to the hills nearby. He attempted to contact any aircraft flying nearby to ask about wind conditions at higher altitude. He received no response. He decided to takeoff to the south east since the vegetation was low and no trees to hit. During liftoff the aircraft was not achieving adequate lift along the 800 ft gravel bar. The aircraft tires skipped across the water and the landing gear inpacted a tree stump on the other side of the river. The landing gear was damaged and bent back and the propeller impacted the ground. No injuries to either occupant.
