From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

During pattern work on third apporach at kpub, the student touched down in a 3-point attitude despite flight instructor verbal "nose up" prompts. The aircraft bounced in the air, the instructor took the controls and the aircraft settled back down on the mains. As the nose was lowered, it became evident that the nose wheel was missing as a brief scraping sound appeared. The instructor increased backstick pressure and moved the mixture to idle cut off. One prop tip was scraped in a forward/aft direction and the nose wheel assembly was sheared from the nose gear. No injuries. The aircraft manufacturer has requested the nose gear for evaluation.
