From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The acft experienced an engine compartment fire and sustained minor damage, after landing on rwy 05.

The engine reportedly quit during the ldg rollout, as the PIC was applying the brakes and turning off on to taxiway echo located at the end of the rwy. The fire subsequently occurred as the PIC was attempting to restart the engine. The PIC then exited the acft and extinguished the fire with a portable halon fire extinguisher from the acft.

Inspection of the engine compartment damage revealed that fire and heat damage was limited to wiring and hoses in the vicinity above the carb airbox.

A CFI rptd witnessing the acft ldg from the rwy 05 approach end run up area, while in another acft waiting to t/o. he reported that N635FT crossed over the rwy threshold at approx 300 ft AGL and that it did not touch down until about 2/3 of the way down the (3000') rwy. The CFI noted that the winds at the time were from 160 degrees at about 8 KTS.

The school chief CFI reported that he later reviewed ADS-B data for the flt and found that the acft was at 300' AGL and 103 KTS grnd speed when it crossed over the rwy 05 numbers.

A review of mlb wx observations taken around the time of the incident revealed that winds were from s to sse at 5 to 7 mph.

As the FAA filed it
