From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

At approximately 02:04 MDT the airman arrived at spanish fork airport and opened the hangar door. At about 02:29 MDT the airman taxiied N526CP to the runway and departed. At approximately 02:39 MDT the aircraft hit a residential home which subsequently caught fire and burned most of the aircraft and much of the home. The residence that was hit was the airman's residence.

Investigation of the flight path revealed that the airman was flying roughtly north to south at low altitude. This resulted in contact with tree tops, flying under power lines, and the left wing tip making contact with the residence across the street, causing minimal damage to the roof, before hitting the airman's residence. One factor that decreased the impact damage to the airman's residence was the fact that the aircraft hit a small tree in the park strip and a vehicle that was parked in front of the airman's residence before the aircraft made contact with the house.

As the FAA filed it
