What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
While landing rollout on runway 34, the pilot reported the aircraft drifted to the left as a result of unreported windgusts. The pilot stated he applied right rudder & brake for correction. At that time he realized the right brake had failed. The pilot reported he then intentionally applied remaining left brake to intentionally ground loop the aircraft to prevent the aircraft from departing the runway, however the right wheel stuck in loose dirt causing the right wing and elevator to make ground contact causing substantial damage. Inspection of the break showed the cotter pin was missing that connects the plunger rod to the rudder peddle rendering the brake inoperative.
