The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
On 09/12/2018 at approximately 16:30 EST N720EC, a Cirrus SR-22, overran runway 22 at Newport state airport (uuu). The pilot, privacy data omitted was conducting the localizer approach to runway 22 at uuu. The aircraft came to rest approximately 300 feet into the grass, past runway 22 at uuu on an approximate heading of 220 degrees. Damage was noted to the main landing gear and nose wheel. Additionally, damage was noted to all three wheel fairings.
The automated weather reported at uuu at 20:13 UTC was winds 030 degrees at 7 knots, 10 statute miles visibility, light rain, clouds scattered at 400 feet, sky overcast at 1000 feet, temperature was 20 degrees celsius, dew point 20 degrees celsius, and the altimeter was 30.25 inches of mercury.
According to the pilot, cloud bases were 820 feet MSL when he broke out of the clouds. The pilot stated that he was high and fast on the first approach and decided to conduct a go-around. The pilot stated he remained within circling minimums of the airport, and conducted a second visual approach to runway 22 at uuu. The pilot stated that he was too close to the runway on the second approach causing him to be high and fast and decided to go around for a third visual approach. On the third approach, the pilot stated he was set up nicely and landed within the first third of the runway.
After touchdown, the pilot stated that when he applied the brakes, the plane started hydroplaning. The pilot stated he pumped the brakes trying to get the plane to stop in time. While attempting to stop, the pilot realized that he would not have enough runway.
The pilot stated the he did not calculate landing distance data for this flight. privacy data omitted Stated that he has conducted this flight at least fifty times over the past twenty years, and knows his aircraft can land at this airport.
An employee working at the time of the incident stated that she observed the aircraft conduct two go-around approaches and landed on the third landing. The FBO employee stated that the aircraft touched down approximately ½ down the runway.
As the FAA filed it
ON 09/12/2018 AT APPROXIMATELY 16:30 EST N720EC, A CIRRUS SR-22, OVERRAN RUNWAY 22 AT NEWPORT STATE AIRPORT (UUU). THE PILOT, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS CONDUCTING THE LOCALIZER APPROACH TO RUNWAY 22 AT UUU.
^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ STATED THAT HE HAS CONDUCTED THIS FLIGHT AT LEAST FIFTY TIMES OVER THE PAST TWENTY YEARS, AND KNOWS HIS AIRCRAFT CAN LAND AT THIS AIRPORT.
