From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On October 1, 2018 around 0330 CDT, while conducting the RNAV 08 approach into Keokuk, IA (keok), a Cessna 340, N89AM, struck the ground about ¾ of a mile before the runway. The pilot in command, informed this office that he was on a part 91 trip from chicago o?hare (kord) to mount pleasant, IA (kmpz) when he had to execute a missed approach due to low IFR conditions. The pilot then talked to chicago center and was given direct ritoy (iaf) for the RNAV 08 at keok. The pilot stated the AWOS was reporting 300 feet and 1 mi (the minimums for the approach). At around 50 feet from minimums, the pilot said he saw a light that he perceived to the runway lights. The pilot then continued to descend from minimums and contacted the ground, applied full power and climbed two hundred feet. The pilot then saw the runway environment and made an uneventful landing.
