From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On October 19, 2018 at approximately 1130 CDT, an experimental Flybaby, N107KW, crashed into a field of small trees and scrub approximately 14 NM east of 2R4, peter prince airport, milton, FL. VFR conditions prevailed at the time of the accident. Winds were light and variable from the south. The pilot departed mccutchan airport (8FL6) on a local pleasure flight. Witnesses reported hearing the engine being turned off then on, and rpm's increased and decreased prior to the crash. Initial investigation indicates that the airplane had approximately 5 gallons of fuel remaining on board, however the fuel tank was punctured in two locations due to the crash. A strong fuel smell was present in the area indicating there may have been more fuel prior to the crash. A fuel sample was taken from the tank outlet with no contamination noted. An examination of the wooden propeller indicated the engine was not under power at the time of impact. The impact angle was high, and the debris field was contained within the outline of the aircraft indicating a possible stall/spin.
