From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Pilots were returning from a day of flying to the carolinas to check on owners boat. Flight back to Gainsville, GA was uneventful and all systems were normal. Per survivers statement, the pilot privacy data omitted took the controls before landing. The next thing the none flying pilot knew, they were inverted. Acording to flight information recovered, about 5MINS from the landing, the aircraft was in an unusual decent. The aircraft struck some trees about a 1/4 mile from the runway. The aircraft struck the localizer tower and came to rest about 1000 yards left of localizer and just short of the runway. Witness at the hold short line confirms the same and when the aircraft struck the ground, he contacted 911 and directed them to the aircraft. He secured the aircraft power and fuel and spoke to the one piot who identified himself. First responders removed both pilots and transported both to the hospital.
