From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The aircraft departed montrose, Colorado earlier in the day. The aircraft encountered icing conditions enroute and the pilot began working with ATC to locate a suitable location to land. Accumulation of ice caused the aircraft to lose its ability to maintain level flight and ATC provided vectors for the airport in liberal, Kansas. When ice accumulation caused the aircraft to descend below ATC radar coverage, ATC instructed the pilot to tune to the liberal ILS, which the pilot apparently did.

The aircraft struck a power line approximately 3 miles short of the liberal airport. The aircraft impacted the ground approximately 100 yards from the location of the power line strike.

As the FAA filed it
