From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Aircraft departed kmhp Metter municipal airport after refelling. Pilot climbed out at 800' and continued to climb to 2800' where engine began coughing and then stopped. Pilot claims to have checked fuel pressure to ensure it was still on and pumped the throttle to no avail. The pilot turned back to the airport and knew he would not make it and landed in a cotton field. There were no injuries or any damage to the aircraft. No further information could be produced at this time due to the recovery company that was moving the aircraft caused damage to the spar during disassembly. Further documentation on the engine stoppage will be addressed once the insurance company determines it acceptable to work the aircraft again. The aircraft is being stored at massey ranch airpark, X50, edgewater, FL.
