From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Pilot enroute from klom (lincoln park NJ) to kbgm (binghamton NY) flying IFR in VMC at 5000 ft in cruise. Engine made a noise accompanied by partial power loss. Pilot declared emergency and was vectored to nearest airport kavp. Engine failed and propeller stopped. Pilot selected landing site and touched down on gravel driveway on approximate heading of 105. Sufficient distance to stop was not available and aircraft contacted vegetation and came to rest upright and intact on approximate heading 315 near intersection of mislinski road and o?hara road, partially blocking o?hara road.

The sole occupant was the pilot and he was uninjured. The aircraft nose gear was broken off by contact with ditch near final resting place. Aircraft right wing suffered substantial damage, left wing suffered minor damage, and various fairings and covers were damaged. Propeller damage signatures suggest engine was not running during impact. Examination of engine compartment disclosed catastrophic engine failure evinced by numerous holes in crankcase, one wrist pin located in baffling, one connecting rod located on top of engine, etc. Propeller could not be rotated by hand.

As the FAA filed it
