From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The student and instructor were on a training flight from purdue university airport (klaf) to marion municipal airport (kmzz). Enroute the engine began to run rough. The instructor decided to return to klaf. They were experiencing power and altitude loss. Believing that they would not be able to return to klaf the instructor decided to divert to Frankfort Municipal Airport (kfrk), which was closer. Not having sufficient power and altitude to reach kfrk the instructor decided to land the aircraft in a field. The aircraft sustained minor damage to the landing gear.
